Services & Eligibility

Over 600,000 NYC students attending both public and non-public schools located within the five boroughs and neighboring counties in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut use these services. OPT also provides bus service for more than 160,000 field trips every year.

The Office of Pupil Transportation (OPT) offers four services for students to get to school:

  1. General Education Transportation —Yellow bus service to and from a designated school bus stop.
  2. Specialized Transportation —Yellow bus service to and from an assigned school.
  3. Student MetroCards—Full and half fare MetroCards for use on public transportation.
  4. Pre-K and Early Intervention Transportation—Curb-to-curb yellow bus service for children under the age of five, who are enrolled in special education programs.
